Green Screen

I wanted to quickly do some more green screen keying recently and I did this one relatively quickly in After Effects. Mainly I wanted to try my hand at keying out hair as I have never previously had the opportunity to do so.

This was done using the Keylight plugin which comes with AE. The only issue that I ran into was striking a balance with preserving the detail in the hair whilst reducing the amount of green reflected on to the white coat.

I just did a quick 2D track and used that data to 'move' the background image. I then manually scaled it so that it matches the camera moving closer towards the subject.

The footage is available from Hollywood Camera Work.

Vehicle Lighting

Composited in Nuke.

NOTE: Shaders/textures, lighting and compositing ONLY.

I wanted to light a vehicle of some sort. I found this S-Class model for free on turbosquid.com. Thanks to the artist who created it.

When converting the mesh from 3DS Max to Maya I replaced all of the shaders and textures with my own.

Thursday, 10 November 2011

Haven't posted in a while. There will, however, be a few posts over November and December whilst I prepare new work for my new show reel.

In the mean time here is a still image of a car that I shaded, lit and composited. The model itself is from Turbosquid.com and the background image from Flickr. I mainly wanted to try my hand at lighting and compositing a car and this is my first attempt.

The Lego shots were part of a group project and so the work was divided amongst the team members.

With the first Lego shot, I only did the lighting and compositing. James Eccleston did the animation, modelling and dynamics. Steven Cummings did the textures.

With the 2nd shot, I did the lighting, compositing and animation

Rigging and skinning, in both cases, was done by Stuart Taylor
